The job
A slate-look designer shingle gives a multi-tone gray slate look at a fraction of natural slate's weight, which suits a stone home like this one. We inspected and measured the old roof in November and December 2022 and did the install in March 2023.
What we did
- Tore off the old roof
- Dried in the steep hips and turret with synthetic underlayment
- Installed slate-look designer shingles across the main roof, turret and dormers
- Finished the hips, ridges and turret top so the roof reads as one clean surface
Why it matters on a turret
A turret is a cone of short, curved courses. Each course has to be cut and laid so the pattern stays even all the way to the top. It's slow work, and it's the first thing people notice when it's done wrong.
