About St. Jo
St. Jo (Saint Jo) is on U.S. 82 and State Highway 59 near the Cooke County line, about 15 miles east of Montague. Ithane and Prince Singletary founded it in 1849 while searching for gold, left for Whitesboro, then returned around 1851 and named their home Head of Elm for its location. Census estimates show about 956 residents.
