Standing seam

Standing Seam Metal Roofing

A standing seam roof is made of long metal panels joined by raised seams, with the fasteners hidden under those seams instead of screwed through the face of the panel. Snow Roofing & Exteriors installs standing seam on homes, lake houses, porches and accent roofs across Wise County and North Texas, from our offices in Bridgeport, Decatur and Rhome.

Why people choose standing seam

  • No exposed screws, so there are no screw washers to age in the sun
  • Clean lines that suit modern farmhouses, lake houses and Hill Country-style homes
  • A long service life when it's installed with the right clips, underlayment and flashing
  • Works with solar because seam clamps attach without drilling the panels (ask your solar installer)

Details we'll talk through with you

  • Snap-lock or mechanically seamed. Mechanically seamed panels are folded together with a seaming tool. The right choice depends on pitch and wind exposure.
  • Panel gauge. We install 26-gauge standing seam panels.
  • Finish. Bare Galvalume, or a painted finish in the color you want.
  • Thermal movement. Long panels expand and contract, so clips and trim have to let them move.
  • Impact ratings. Some standing seam panels are UL 2218 listed. If the insurance credit matters to you, we'll show you which ones.

Formed in-house, installed by our own crew

We form our standing seam panels in-house on our own roll formers and standing seam machine, and our own crew installs them. Most roofers order standing seam panels from a supplier and wait on that shop's schedule. Running our own panels lets us control the panel and the timing, and the crew that installs them works for us, not a subcontractor.

Lake houses and open land

Lake Bridgeport, Possum Kingdom and the open ranch land around Jacksboro and Bowie all get strong, unobstructed wind. On these jobs we pay extra attention to how edges, eaves and ridges are fastened. See our Runaway Bay & Lake Bridgeport and Possum Kingdom Lake pages.

Residential warranty: a 10-year transferable workmanship warranty, with manufacturer warranties up to lifetime. Manufacturer coverage depends on the product and brand, and on the project qualifying for that manufacturer's program. We put the exact warranty for your roof in writing.

Frequently asked questions

Does Snow Roofing & Exteriors make its own standing seam panels?

Yes. We form our standing seam panels in-house on our own roll formers and standing seam machine, and our own crew installs them.

What gauge is your standing seam?

We install 26-gauge standing seam panels, formed in-house on our own roll formers and standing seam machine.

Is standing seam worth the extra cost over R-panel?

For many homes, yes. Standing seam hides its fasteners, so there are no exposed screw washers to maintain, and it has a cleaner look. For shops, barns, and budget-focused projects, R-panel is often the better value.

Is a standing seam roof noisy in the rain?

On a house with a solid deck, underlayment, and an insulated attic, most people find it no louder than a shingle roof. Open-framed buildings like barns are louder because there is no deck or attic to absorb sound.

Can standing seam go over my existing shingles?

Sometimes. It depends on local code, the manufacturer, the deck condition, and how many layers are already there. We check during the inspection and recommend a tear-off when it is the better choice.
